What is Enactus?

Our Mission

We are Enactus Okanagan College!

Our team is based in the Okanagan Valley in beautiful British Columbia, Canada. Spread across the four campuses of Okanagan College in Kelowna, Vernon, Penticton, and Salmon Arm, Enactus Okanagan College is a non-profit student run organization that develops and implements projects in our communities that improve the quality of life and standard of living across the region!

Seeing Possibilities

Our area faces many challenges, and each community in the region has its own unique needs – but where others see problems, we see opportunities! Our team is committed to addressing the needs of our communities by partnering with local organizations to implement projects that really make a difference.

Taking Action

We run high-impact projects that address economic, social, and environmental issues. We have developed entrepreneurial programs that contribute to the development of our small business economies. We have provided support and immediate aid to our local food banks by running projects designed to collect much needed donations and funds. We have helped raise awareness for local agriculture and helped support our farmers by creating an off-season market. We have worked with children, single mothers, and individuals at risk in our communities to show them the transformative power of positive change.

Enabling Progress

Our approach is based on a common set of values that inform our perspective and drive our work. We want to drive change in our communities, not to give a hand out to those in need, but to work side by side with them to create opportunity. Through our projects Enactus Okanagan College enables progress to transform lives and communities across the valley.

Enactus, known before October 2012 as Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE), and originally as ACE, is an international non-profit organization that works with leaders in business and higher education to mobilize university students to make a difference in their communities while developing the skills to become socially responsible business leaders. Participating students form teams on their university campuses and apply business concepts to develop outreach projects that improve the quality of life and standard of living for people in need. An annual series of regional and national competitions provides a forum for teams to present the results of their projects, and to be evaluated by business leaders serving as judges. National champion teams advance to the Enactus World Cup. In addition to the community aspect of the program, Enactus leadership and career initiatives create opportunities for learning and exchange among the participants as well as the placement of students and alumni with companies in search of emerging talent. Enactus also serves as a “low-cost” source of entry-level managerial talent, especially for sponsoring companies.

Memories from past members:

Vincent Yew was one of the founding members of Enactus, or A.C.E. as it was know in his day. Thanks to the vision of  faculty like Kyleen Myrah and Heather Banham, A.C.E. (Advancing Canadian Entrepreneurship) was born in 2005. Vincent was already on a busininess competition team and was convinced to join by First year co-President Jennifer Dickson. Vincent started helping with the Young Entrepreneurs program, which has been around 10 years now! He coached a team of 4 students who had a business selling coverpages, and they managed to take 4th place at National competion. Vincent coached another group in his second year with Enactus and helped them get 1st place at Regional Competiotion the next year.
Vincent said he loved being able to add value to the lives of those he mentored through the Y.E. program, and that he also learned a huge amount working and competing with A.C.E. (Enactus).
